Car Hits Woman of 70 - Runs Away

Mystery Still Surrounds the Serious Accident of Mrs. Jas. Donahue

Mrs. James Donahue, 70, was seriously injured in a mysterious accident on North Hewett Street last Wednesday evening. She had left her home on West 15th Street, a few minutes before 7:30, to attend the services at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and was found a few minutes later, lying on the street in an unconscious condition. She had evidently been struck by a south bound car, while crossing Hewett Street, near the intersection with East 16th Street.

Indications were that she had been dragged 30 or more feet along the pavement, and tracks showed that after coming to a stop, the hit-and-run driver had backed his car away from the prostate woman, and driven around her, going on south to make his escape.

Mrs. Donahue was alone and there were no witnesses to the accident, but fortunately there were a number of people on the street, and the injured woman received prompt attention. People in the neighborhood, and those who stopped to give assistance, called the proper authorities and a doctor. Mrs. Donahue was taken by ambulance to the Neillsville Hospital, where examination disclosed that she had suffered a fractured left leg and left arm, and numerous cut and bruises on the right side.

She is in a serious condition, and her injuries will confine her to the hospital for many weeks.
