Lyons, Steven Angelo (10 Mar. 1859 - 7 Feb. 1943)

Funeral services for Steven Angelo Lyons of Neillsville, who passed away Monday, February 7, at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon, February 12, at the Schiller-Terhune funeral home where the body lay in state. The Rev. George W. Longenecker, pastor of the Congregational Church will be the officiating clergyman, and burial will take place in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Mr. Lyons was born at Rubicon, Dodge County, Wisconsin, March 10, 1859, and would have been 85 years of age on March 10. He was the son of Elijah and Ophoeba Lyons, who lived many years ago on a farm south of Loyal. He worked on a farm at Loyal, and in lumber camps at Neillsville and Black River Falls, and on many a long drive on Black River in early days. After settling in Neillsville, he was employed by the city for several years at the water works. In his later years, he took up practical nursing, a work for which he had a natural bent. For the past few years, he has not been able to work. He was the last of a large family of brothers and sisters.

On January 22, he entered the hospital for an operation, and for a time seemed to be recovering satisfactorily, but later grew worse, and passed away Monday afternoon.

He was married in 1883, to Miss Anna Julia Winn of Black River Falls, and soon after came to Neillsville, where he has since resided. He is survived by his wife, two children and two grandchildren. The children are: Judson Lyons, Neillsville, and Grace, Mrs. R. C. McHugh, Oak Park, Ill. The grandchildren are: Leonard Lyons, who resides in California and Cpl. Russell J. Lyons in U. S. Army Service at Ft. Ord, Calif. Mr. Lyons was especially devoted to his grandson, Russell.

Those from away who are expected here to attend the funeral services are: Mrs. Julia Lyons, and Mr. and Mrs. R. C. McHugh, Oak Parks, Ill., and Cpl. Russell J. Lyons.
