Louis J. Skwierczynski

Louis J. Skwierczynski, 82, Stratford, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at Saint Joseph's Palliative Care, Marshfield.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Sauter/Kundinger Funeral Home, Stratford. The Rev. Thomas J. Rudolph will officiate. Burial will be in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, town of Eau Pleine, where military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6352, Stratford.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday at Sauter/Kundinger.

Louis was born June 12, 1924, in Thorp to Ignatz and Anna (Truchan) Skwierczynski. As a young man he worked as a truck driver in the logging industry in Minnesota. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he worked as a crane operator in Chicago.

On Sept. 2, 1950, he and Louise D. Posda were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Stanley. They lived in Norridge, Ill., until 1971, when they moved to the town of Cleveland, where he farmed until his retirement. Later, Louis moved to the village of Stratford. In his retirement, he enjoyed polka music and dancing, his family and good friends, and watching westerns and the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed working outdoors. Louis was a very loving, and giving father and grandfather.

He is survived by his children, Jerry (Rigsbee) Skwierczynski of Crystal Lake, Ill., Edward (Cheryl) Skwierczynski of Stratford, Rita (Larry) Waring of St. Charles, Ill., and Ernie (Lisa) Skwierczynski of Stratford; seven grandchildren, Ben, Michelle, Mandy, Megan, Matt, Chris and Adam.

He is further survived by a brother, Walter Skwierczynski of Chicago; a sister, Helen Kostick of Thorp; sisters-in-law, Agnes Skwierczynski of Norridge, Ill., and Antoinette Skwierczynski of Thorp; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Zurakowski of Thorp, James Posda of Cudahy, Richard Posda of Stanley, and Florian (Dorothy) Posda of Stanley; a special friend, Arlene Theime of Wausau, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Louise, on September 8, 1987, and brothers, Nick, Stanley, Frank and Leo.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the people at Village Spirits, Stratford, to Chuck and Bernie Wenzel, and to the Palliative Care staff for the special care that was given.
