Volkmar, Elizabeth (14 July 1873 - 16 Sept. 1951)

Mrs. Elizabeth Volkmar died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elsie Herrmann, in the town of Colby, Sunday, Sept. 16, at 4:15 P.M., a heart ailment being the cause of her death. She had been ill just one year. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at First Evangelical and Reformed church at Colby, Wis., Rev. Franz Paul Puhlmann officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Relatives acted as pall bearers.

Mrs. Volkmar was born in Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Uhlig, on July 14, 1873, thus reaching the age of 78 years, two months and two days. She married William Volkmar in Colby, Wisconsin on August 30, 1900, after which they engaged in farming.

Surviving are her six children, Elsie Herrmann of Colby, Malinda Neuhaus of Abbotsford, Florence Thede of Colby, Oscar Volkmar of Spencer, Emmaline Thede of New Holstein, Miss Elfrieda Volkmar of Owen; three brothers, Gust Uhlig of Abbotsford, William Uhlig of Glidden and Paul Uhlig of Boone, Iowa. Her husband and one sister preceded her in death.

Mrs. Volkmar, like all early settlers, was a good Christian and of an industrial and congenial disposition. She cared more for the welfare of her family than that of her personal social pleasures so will, for her many acts of kindness, long be remembered by her children as well as friends and neighbors.
