Sommers, Arthur #2 (14 AUG 1879 - 5 DEC 1943)

Arthur Sommers, age 64, town of Green Grove (Clark Co., Wis.) farmer, died at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital Sunday at four o’clock p.m. of injuries suffered in a runaway accident on his farm 1 ½ miles southwest of the Village of Curtiss, Sunday noon. Mr. Sommers was about to unhitch the team after hauling manure when the horses became frightened and ran. He was caught by the arm and dragged a distance of 40 rods, and never regained consciousness. Brought to the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital he passed away one and a half hours later.

Doctors reported that he suffered an extensive skull fracture and laceration of the brain, as well as other injuries.

Mr. Sommers was a native of Green Grove and lived there virtually all his life. He has been assessor of the town for a number of years. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Henry (Verna) Schuh, who lives near them, and Mrs. Lavern Pacholke (Leona) of Colby, and one grandchild, one sister, Mrs. Hattie Glenzer, four half-brothers, Alvin Woik, Ernest Woik, Paul Woik, and Anton Woik, all living in the town of Green Grove, and two half-sisters, Mrs. John McLaughlin and Mrs. Frank Nedley of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Lulloff Funeral Home at Colby on Thursday p.m., the Rev. David Grether will officiate and burial will be at Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.
