Gumz, Martha (9 Jan. 1914 - 29 Feb. 2008)

Martha Gumz, 94, Abbotsford, died Friday, February 29, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. Services will be held Wednesday, March 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Peace United Church of Christ, Dorchester, Wis. The Rev. Robert Everhard will preside.

Pall Bearers will be Rick Hardrath, Troy Kreklau, David Gumz, Rodney Gumz, Doug Fink and Randy Apfelbeck. Burial will be in North Dorchester Memorial Cemetery.

Martha was born January 9, 1914, in Stetsonville, daughter of Rudolph and Anna (Lueddecke) Balsel.

She married Herman Gumz on June 17, 1931. The lived and worked on the faming in the Dorchester area until January of 1958 when they moved to Abbotsford, Wis.

Martha worked at the House of Dav-Ed and Cass Grande Restaurants. She raised and sold Canaries and was an avid gardener, did many crafts and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidery cooking and baking.

She is survived by a son, Herbert (Mary) Gumz, Dorchester; two daughters (Janet) Donald) Fink, Colby and Doris (James) Apfelbeck, Park Falls; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herman; infant daughter, Dorothy; son Lester; one grandchild; three brothers, Albert Ed and Herman Blasel; and two sisters, Bertha Reiter, and Selma Gumz.
