Gorsegner, Harvey William (4 DECEMBER 1922 - 31 MAY 1946)

Title: HARVEY GORSEGNER DIES OF SMALLPOX

Subtitle: Former Thorp Man, 23, was Third in Family to Die in Month

Thorp-- Harvey Gorsegner, 23, of Port Angeles, Wash., and formerly of Thorp, died Friday morning, May 31, at his home, the result of hemorrhagic smallpox. He was the third member of the family to die the past month, his father, William Gorsegner, died May 16 of the disease and his brother Eugene, died May 11 of another cause.

Harvey William Gorsegner was born in Thorp Dec. 4 1922 and moved to Port Angeles with his parents when he was four years old. He was a 1941 graduate of Roosevelt High School, living in Seattle for three years after graduating and returning later to Port Angeles, where he was presently employed as an accountant.

On June 27, 1943, he was married to Miss Wilda Loewen. He was a member of the Independent Bible Church and the Gideon group, was president of the Young People’s Christian Fellowship, and was assistant superintendent of the Sunday School.

Besides his father and brother, his mother, the former Miss Hattie Stigen of Withee, and a sister, Gladys, preceded him in death, Gladys, preceded him in death. Surviving relatives are his wife and 20-months-old son, Gerald; his stepmother, Mrs. Helen Gorsegner; and a stepbrother, John.

Private funeral services were held Saturday, June 1, the Rev. Benjamin Hutchinson officiating, and interment followed in Mr. Angeles cemetery.
