Hoffman, Carolyn (28 Nov. 1870 - 14 Feb. 1955)

Mrs. Max Hoffman died Monday morning at the home of her son, Edmund Hoffman, of Colby, Route 1, at the age of 85 years. Funeral services are being held this Thursday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Rev. Vincent Schwartz officiating, and internment will be made in the Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield.

The deceased, whose maiden name was Carolyn Bachmier, was born on November 28, 1870, in Bavaria, Germany. At the age of 18 years, she came to the United States and settled in Marshfield. On November 19, 1890, she married Frank Irlbeck of Iowa in St. John’s Catholic church in Marshfield. He died in 1891. Her second marriage took place on September 5, 1895, to Max Hoffman at Sheboygan. He died in 1947. Mr. Hoffman worked for Roddis Ply Wood and Upham Manufacturing Co. and also died some farming. Mrs. Hoffman lived in Marshfield until February 1954, when she moved to Colby and made her home with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Hoffman. She was a member of the Rosary Altar Society of St. John’s, Marshfield, and the St. Mary’s Christian Mother’s Society, Colby, Wis.

Surviving are five sons, George of Abbotsford, Max of Stetsonville, Alfred of Marshfield, Joseph of Marshfield and Edmund of Colby; three daughters, Mrs. Ed. (Frances) Kauffman of Marshfield, Mrs. Emil (Mary) Starek of Athens and Mrs. Joseph (Margaret) Hiebsch of Owen; 29 grand children and 17 great grand children.

One son, Frank, preceded her in death and three other children died in infancy.

Funeral services for Mrs. Max Hoffman, who died at the age of 85 years, as reported last week, were held in St. Mary’s Catholic church last Thursday morning, Rev. Vincent Schwartz officiating and burial was made in Hillside Cemetery at Marshfield. Pall bearers were Robert and Eugene Irlbeck, Leonard, Thomas and Bernard Hoffman and Gerald Hiebsch.

Out of town people here for the services were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hunsader, Mrs. Lawrence Posse and Caroline Irlbeck of Weyauwega, Eugene Irlbeck of Baraboo, Robert Irlbeck of Gays Mills, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hoffman and Mrs. Harry Rief of Sheboygan, Mrs. Francis Ettl, Miss Mary Fischer, Anton, Alois and John Fischer, Mrs. Adolph Buchholtz, Walter Meyer, Mrs. Victor Kauffman, Mrs. Don Tremmling, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Jirschele, Mrs. John Jirschele, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Arneson, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hoffman and Joyce Stasek of Marshfield, Gerald Hiebsch of Great Lakes, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lapp, John Stasek, Mrs. Ernest Johnson, William Beil, Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Barganquast, Mrs. Ralph Barganquast, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Goldamer, Mrs. Al Holtzhausen and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hoffman and family of Abbotsford, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Feind and family and Bernard Hoffman of Rochester, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Duellman of Dorchester, Mrs. Esther Hoard of Mosinee, Mr. and Mrs. John Greschner and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Greschner of Withee, Diane Halverson and Mrs. B.
