Unity Church to Observe Anniversary

The Unity Methodist church will hold a 50th anniversary celebration at the church Sunday, Nov. 13th. There will be services at 9:45 A.M. and at 2:30 P.M. Dr. Richard Miller, professor of church administration and director of student appointments of Evanston, Ill., will preside at the morning service and Rev. Lee Holmes will be in charge of the sermon in the afternoon. There will be a fellowship dinner at the noon hour.

The first Methodist church in Unity, Wisconsin was organized in 1879 and was completely destroyed by a cyclone on June 3rd, 1905. The present church was started immediately after the cyclone but was not completed until in January, 1908, when it was dedicated. The corner stone was laid on October 21st, 1905, with appropriate services.

In the corner stone was placed a box containing one copy of the church discipline, one copy of the Northwestern Advocate, one copy of the Epworth Herald, two copies of the Marathon County Register, one containing the account of the cyclone which destroyed the church and one with an announcement of the laying of the corner stone, one copy of the Colby Phonograph, some pictures not listed and a list of 162 names of donors to the corner stone fund.
