Smudde, Emily Marie (Marriage - 28 Sept. 1955)

Miss Emily Marie Smudde, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smudde of Colby, Route 2, and Bernard Raczykowski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Raczykowski, Sr., of Unity, were united in marriage at a 9:00 A.M. ceremony performed in St. Mary’s church in Colby by Rev. Vincent Schwartz last week Wednesday.

With the exception of the maid of honor, who was a close friend of the bride, all other members of the wedding party were relatives of either the bride or the bridegroom.

Patricia Steittgen of Colby, Route 2, attended her friend as maid of honor, while the bridesmaid was Mrs. Walter Raczykowski, sister-in-law of the bridegroom.

Raymond Smudde of Poynette, the bride’s brother, was best man, while the bridegroom’s brother, Walter Raczykowski of Unity, was groomsman. Two other brothers of the bride, Wilbert and George Smudde of Chicago, served as ushers.

A waltz-length gown of net and lace over satin was worn by Miss Smudde at her wedding. The skirt was styled in two tiers, and a bolero was worn over the strapless bodice. The sleeves ended at the elbow. A headdress of rhinestones and pearls held her finger-tip veil.

Waltz-length dresses were also worn by Miss Steittgen and Mrs. Raczykowski. The former was dressed in shrimp-colored taffeta, and net, and the latter was in blue. White net and pearl tiaras were their headdresses, and their bouquets were nosegays of white carnations in combination with bronze and yellow mums.

The mothers of the bridal couple were both attired in navy blue, and had red carnation corsages. Mrs. Smudde chose black accessories to complete her ensemble, and Mrs. Raczykowski wore peacock blue accessory accents.

Approximately 100 guests were present at the reception which followed at the bride’s home. Reception and wedding guests included several from out of town, whose residences were listed as Chicago, Merrill, St. Paul, Unity, Curtiss, Appleton, Poynette, Tomahawk and Green Bay.

After a wedding trip to Northern Wisconsin, the newlyweds will make their home at Unity, Wis.
