Stelzel, Agnes (Marriage - 1 July 1954)

Miss Agnes Stelzel, employed at the office of the Lewis Container Co. in Colby and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Stelzel of Dorchester, and Dennis Mertins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mertens of Dorchester, were united in marriage Thursday, July 1st, in St. Louis Catholic church in Dorchester, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Thomas Hayden officiating. Bouquets of pink and white peonies decorated the altar.

Three tiers of lace formed the skirt of the ankle-length satin gown worn by the bride. A Queen Anne collar topped the gown’s long sleeved bodice. Seed pearls and shells adorned the coronation crown that secured her finger-tip veil.

An aqua net-over-taffeta frock was donned by Miss Mary Ann Reynolds in her role as maid of honor for her cousin. Daisies composed her headpiece and bouquet. Bridesmaids included two sisters - Misses Arlene and Mary Stelzel.

Henry Mertens served as best man for his brother and groomsmen were Dennis Tischendorf and Lloyd Mertens, another brother.

Places were set for 120 guests for the dinner at noon in the church basement after which the newlyweds greeted guests at a reception in the bride’s home. A buffet supper in the church basement concluded the day’s festivities. Aqua and white streamers decorated the hall with bowls of sweet peas on the table.

The couple is now at home in Dorchester following a wedding trip to Northern Wisconsin and Canada. The groom is employed in his father’s garage. Both are graduates of Dorchester High School.

Out-of-town guests were from Wausau, Milwaukee, Owen, Thorp, Stanley, Minneapolis, Chippewa Falls and Chicago.
