Schilling, William & Elizabeth (60th - 12 JAN 1941)

Sunday evening, relatives, friends and old neighbors met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Max Voss in the Town of Beaver to celebrate the 60th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. William Schilling. At the service the group joined in singing familiar hymns and their pastor made an address based on Romans 12:12. The honored couple was the recipient of gifts

Mr. Schilling was born in Zacheraberg, Germany on the 22nd day of June 1856 and two years later came with his parents to the U.S.A. to Waukesha County, and in 1870 moving to Jefferson County. Mrs. Schilling, nee Elizabeth Prell, was born in Jefferson, Wis., on the 18th day of October, 1858. Two of their children, Albert and Hattie Voss, reside in the Town of Beaver, and one son Frank resides at Comertown, Montana. In 1883 Mr. and Mrs. Schilling came to Clark County and bought forty acres with but five cleared. The same year Mr. Schilling and seven others organized Trinity Lutheran Church and built a log church 1 ½ miles north of Loyal. Mr. Schilling is the only remaining charter member of the original eight. After clearing his forty acres, Mr. Schilling bought an adjoining 40 acres of woodland which he also cleared.

Just before World War No. 1 they sold their farm and bought 40 acres across the road to the south where they built a home and improved the farm. When approaching age made farm work difficult, they sold their home and moved in with their daughter, building an addition to the house, so they could have their own rooms.

Considering their age, Mr. and Mrs. Schilling are quite able to be about. After spending a social evening, a two course luncheon was served, and their friends and neighbors departed, wishing them health and happiness in their declining years.

Others present, besides those mentioned above were Mr. Karl Bloedow; Mr. and Mrs. Philip Capelle and children Delmar, Calvin and Dorothy; Mr. and Mrs. William Deuermeyer and children Anthone and Wilma; Mr. August Ehlert and Mr. Raymond Wehrman, Mr. Ernst and Miss Clara Hinkelmann, Mr. and Mrs. George Hause, Mrs. Ernst Jenni, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Konshak, Rev. and Mrs. J. C. Langholz and daughter Eunice, Mr. and Mrs. Merlyn Lindner and son Darrell, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schilling, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stange, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Voss and Mrs. Julia Kuester.
