Jacobs, Matilda (15 AUG 1867 - 10 MAY 1941)

(Breezy Hill Correspondent)

Mrs. Matilda Johnson Jacobs was born in Stockholm, Sweden on Aug. 15, 1867 and died of chronic nephritis at her home at Breezy Hill, town of Worden (Clark Co., Wis.), on May 10, 1941.

When she was eleven years of age she came to the United States with her parents and resided near Chicago.

In 1903 she was united in marriage to Wm. Jacobs at Melrose Park, Ill.

Two sons, Edward and Wm. Jr., five daughters, Margaret, Alice, Minnie and Mabel, and one dying in infancy were born to Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs.

In 1905 they moved to the town of Worden, near their present home. They cleared land and by hard hand labor made themselves a home out of the wilderness.

Her husband, two sons and three daughters have preceded her in death. Mr. Jacobs passed away three years ago and Wm. Jr. and Minnie last summer, just three months apart.

On the evening of her daughter’s funeral last September she was injured in a leg and has been a constant sufferer since that time. Few people have been forced to endure the hardships, sorrow and suffering that she has had, yet through it all she bore it bravely and without complaining.

Two daughters, Alice and Mabel at home, and one sister, Mrs. Henry Gustafson of Chicago, and five grandchildren survive.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon from the P.N.A. hall at Thorp by the Izydorek Funeral Directors and Rev. Jas. Irish, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating. Mrs. Bernie Rusch rendered the solos.

Pallbearers were, John Misfeldt, Bert Hubbard, Otto Beckman, Paul Brunett, Alex Soeller and Reid Gibbs.

Interment was made in the Reseburg Cemetery beside her husband and children.
