Henry Weddig of Owen Takes Over Colby Drug Store

Henry Weddig of Owen took over the Colby Drug Store Monday and he and his wife, Dorothy and two children, Lea Mae Weddig and Peter Weddig, have moved into the apartment above the drug store. Mr. and Mrs. Nelsen have moved into their new home in the second ward.

Mr. Weddig was born in West Bend and moved to Withee with his parents when three years of age. He was in Owen the past 32 years. Mrs. Weddig is a native of Owen.

Nelsen Was Active

During the years C. A. Nelsen operated the Colby Drug Store, he was also very active in civic affairs and held numerous offices. Some of his activities include:

Member of the Masonic lodge since February, 1920.

Charter member of Legion Post No. 266, organized in April, 1920. Was the first post commander and has been post commander for three terms since.

Member of the Clark County Red Cross since 1920. Was local chairman for 12 years. At present is member of the Clark County Red Cross Chapter Service Committee.

Member of the Clark County School Committee for two years.

Member of Clark County Children’s Board at the time it operated as a separate division of county welfare.

Member of Colby Graded School Board for 17 years.

Helped organize the local Scout Troop in 1924. Has been a continuous member of that organization. Was scoutmaster for 18 years. Holder of National Scout Award and Silver Beaver received in January, 1947.

Appointed to Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Relief Commission of Clark county by Judge Schoengarth in April, 1926. This commission is now called Veterans’ Service Commission and Nelsen is still a member of this organization.
