COLBY -- Raymond Brehm, 94, Colby, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008 at Continental Manor in Abbotsford, Wis. Services will be scheduled at a later date. Maurina/Community Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Raymond Brehm

Raymond Brehm, 94, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, in Abbotsford, Wis. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 4, at 11 a.m. at the Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford with the Rev. Mara Pehkonen of the Colby United Methodist Church and Owen-Withee Masonic Lodge officiating.

Inurnment will follow with military burial honors in the Colby Memorial cemetery (Colby, Wisconsin). In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite charity are appreciated. Relatives and friends may visit with the family at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m.

Ray was born May 20, 1913, in the town of Hull, Marathon County, to Gustav and Agnes Brehm. Ray served in the military from 1941 to 1945. He served in the Pacific during World War II, was wounded in action and awarded two Purple Hearts. He was also awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater ribbon, two bronze battle stars and five overseas service bars for his service in the Pacific Theater.

Ray and Zola Horn were married April 13, 1945, in Sheboygan. She died in 1999.

Ray worked as a machinist for John Deere of Peoria, Ill., as an electric motor re-winder for Marathon Electric and was a farmer in the Colby/Unity area. Raymond spent many years as a school board member for the Colby school district. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing cards, cribbage, pitching horseshoes and fishing. He was a life member of the VFW, a Past Master of Colby Masonic Lodge 204 and also a 32nd Degree Mason.

Ray is survived by his children, Sharon (Roy) Lazzara of Palatine, Ill., Robert (Judy) Brehm of Oshkosh and Paul (Marilyn) Brehm of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren, Tanya, Tamara, Tyler and Andrew; great-grandchildren, Liam and Quinn and his brother, Allen Brehm of Henderson, Nev.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Zola, and his brother, Roland.
