Meyer, Alfred E. (11 MAY 1915 - 25 SEP 1996)

Loyal, Clark Co., Wis. - Alfred Edward Meyer, 81, of W3232 Maple Center Road, Loyal, died at 3:10 a.m. Sept. 25, 1996 at St. Joseph’s Hospital Hospice Care Unit.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Loyal. The Rev. Roman Kaiser will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery. His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Rinka Funeral Home. There will be a Parish Council of Catholic Women rosary at 4:15 p.m. and a prayer service at 8 p.m., followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary service.

He was born May 11, 1915, in Sherry Township, to Joseph and Theresa (Strigel) Meyer. He married Odelia Elizabeth Burr on June 15, 1938, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church at Rozellville.

Mr. Meyer was born and raised on the family farm. After his education in Auburndale area schools, he farmed with his mother in the Auburndale area. Following his marriage, he moved to Loyal in 1946 and farmed west of town until 1976. He then moved to a farm north of Loyal and resided there until his death. He served as town constable for the Loyal Township for many years. He coordinated the Loyal Corn Fest Horse Pull, rode in the Bicentennial Wagon Train across Wisconsin and was a 4-H leader for many years.

He was a charter member of the Loyal FFA Alumni; a charter member of the Clark County Pleasure Rider Saddle Club; a member of Wis. Horse Pullers Association; a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Lady of Fantima Council No. 4693; a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society; and a member of the Wis. Horse Pullers Association.

He is survived by his daughter, Sister Virdean Meyer, FSPA, of Marshfield; eight sons, Ronald (Judy) Meyer of Marshfield, Richard (Judy) Meyer of Unity, Fritz (Judy) Meyer of Hudson, Larry (Virginia) Meyer of Unity, Allen (Diane) Meyer, Danny (Diane) Meyer, Randy (Pam) Meyer and Bob (Coni) Meyer, all of Loyal; 41 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cecilia (Edward) Patrick of New London and Bernice (Wilfred) Lobner of Auburndale.

He was preceded in death by his wife on May 18, 1992; his parents; and his sister, Helen Kieffer.

The family wishes memorials to be given in his name to St. Anthony’s Catholic School.
