Korman, Mary A. (16 FEB 1857 - 7 DEC 1951)

Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis. - Mrs. Mary A. Korman, 94, pioneer resident of Neillsville, sister of the founder of Flag Day, and wife of one of the founders of the first foundry in Neillsville, died Friday at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Claude Ayers, 612 W. Fifth St.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Georgas Funeral Home, with burial at the Neillsville City Cemetery.

The former Mary Cigrand was born at Waubeka, Ozaukee County, Feb. 16, 1857, and was married to Herman E. Korman on May 11, 1880, at Port Washington. She was educated at the Waubeka public school.

A former milliner in Chicago, after her marriage to Herman Korman, she resided in Waubeka for one year. In 1881 they moved to Neillsville where her husband started the first foundry in partnership with W.S. Taplin at the location of the Quicker and Dux residences. Later her husband was a partner in the Barton, Wolff and Korman wagon factory until his death in 1922.

A resident of the north side until 1928, when she made her home with her daughter, Susan. For the past four years she and her daughter have made their home with the Ayers’. She was a member of Carmi Chapter 60, O.E.S.

She is survived by three daughters, Susie Thoma, Neillsville; Mrs. Anna Jessup, Los Angeles, Calif.’ Mrs. Calla Burley, St. Louis, Mo., four sons, Bernard, Taylor, Texas; Henry, Longview, Wash.; William, St. Louis, Mo., and Jake, Minneapolis, Minn.; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. One son, four brothers and three sisters, preceded her in death.
