Robert J. Bane, who recently reported at the U.S. Naval Air Station at Almeda, Calif., as aviation electronics airman, has been advanced to aviation technician 3rd class. Bane entered the naval service Febraury 28, 1952, and received his recruit training at the naval training center at Great Lakes, Ill. Before his entry into the navy, he was graduated from Colby High School. The squadron flies the 80-ton four engine Martin "Mars" seaplanes from Almeda to Honolulu, T.H. The Mars, which has a wing spread equal to the height of a 20-story building, has carried a 301 passenger load, more than any other aircraft in the world.
