Bark, Mrs. Peter (1853 - 14 Mar. 1928)

FORMER RESIDENT BURIED IN SEATTLE

Mrs. Peter Bark, one of the long-time residents of this locality, passed away on March 14, 1928, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. G. Peterson, in Portland, Oregon.

She was born in Sweden in 1853, came to Abbotsford in 1883, and was married the same year to Peter Bark. They located on the farm two miles west of Abbotsford which continued to be their home, except for a short interval when they resided in the village, until the death of Mr. Bark about a year ago.

Mrs. Bark had been ill for the greater part of a year with an infection of a knee, which finally necessitated amputation. She rallied well, and apparently was making remarkably good progress toward recovery when a decline set in, about three weeks before her death. Her friends "back home" will be glad to know that her characteristic courageousness and serenity of spirit continued throughout her trying illness, and that she was happy and smiling during the day of extreme weakness preceding, as well as at the moment of her passing into the "Great Beyond."

In accordance with her wish that she be laid to rest in Seattle (where she spent the first months after going West) interment took place in the beautiful Evergreen Memorial Park in that city, in the chapel of which the last rites were held Monday, March 19, there being present a good-sized gathering of relatives and friends, several of whom were former residents of Abbotsford, Wisconsin. One of the latter, Mrs. Ralph E. Ostrom (nee Minnie F. Swanson) gave to the occasion the beauty and the comfort of her singing.

Mrs. Bark leaves to mourn her loss five children: John, of Minneapolis, Minn., Victor, of Seattle, Wash., Harry, of Waukesha, Wis., Mrs. Esther Hedberg, of Appleton, Wis., and Mrs. Matilda Peterson, of Seattle, Wash.; six grandchildren; a brother, Mons Nelson, of Bovey, Minn.; other relatives and many friends.

*Transcriber note: The "Wisconsin Marriage Index Pre-1907 - Clark County" shows Peter Bark marrying Kristine (or Kjerstine) Nelson on October 7, 1883.
