Finstad, Vera Louise (Marriage - 27 June 1948)

At eight o’clock Sunday evening, June 27th, at the Ezekiel Lutheran church, Miss Vera Louise Finstad, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Finstad of River Falls, and Mr. Marvin Erdmann of Algoma, were united in marriage. The double ring ceremony was read by Rev. Arthur S. Johnson.

The ceremony was preceded by a program of organ music by Mrs. Ralph Condit of Ellsworth, and four violin selections, "Ave Maria," Liebistraum," "Barcarolie" and "Trees" by Lola Estenson of New Richmond. Just before the processional began Mrs. Gordon Condit of Hamburg, Ark., sang "Because" and during the ceremony sang "O Perfect Love" and "The Lord’s Prayer."

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a period style gown of white brocaded satin, fashioned with a high neckline, long sleeves, tapering to a point over the hands, fitted bodice, and a full skirt with bustle back, ending in a court train. Her fingertip veil was held in place by a headdress of braided net and pearls. She wore a double strand of pearls, gift of the groom, and her grandmother’s pearl earrings. She carried an arm bouquet of white roses.

The maid of honor, Miss Marguerite Baird of River Falls, wore a dress of turquoise taffeta fashioned in period style with a scalloped neckline, fitted bodice and full skirt with a bustle back. She carried a colonial bouquet of pink roses. The bridesmaids were the Misses Carol Finstad and Yvonne Tostrud of River Falls, and Sylvia Swenson of Spring Valley. They wore dresses identical to that of the maid of honor and carried colonial bouquets of white carnations. All attendants wore large picture hats of white organdy, long white gloves and single strands of pearls.

Miss Linda Finstad served as her sister’s flower girl and wore a floor length dress of white organdy. She also wore a single strand of pearls and white gloves and carried a small colonial bouquet of pink roses.

The groom was attended by Allen Anderson of Woodville as best man, Bob Finstad of River Falls, Charles Schmitt and Frank Knipfer of Algoma. All wore light suits and maroon ties. The ushers were Orvin Finstad of River Falls and Leonard Whitmore of Chetek.

The bride’s mother chose a dress of grey and white bemberg with navy blue and white accessories. The groom’s mother wore a powder blue dress with white accessories. They wore identical corsages of pink roses.

A reception was held in the church parlors immediately following the ceremony. Mrs. Harold Olson of Hudson poured and Mrs. Orville Tostrud of River Falls cut the wedding cake.

The couple are both graduates of RFSTC. After a trip west they will be at home in Colby, Wis.
