Martens, Henry (22 Aug 1867 - 2 Jan 1926)

HENRY MARTENS LAID TO REST

Mr. Henry Martens died at his home three miles East of Curtiss, January 2nd, at about midnight, his wife having preceded him in death about nine months ago, or on April 10, 1925.

The funeral was conducted form the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Dorchester, Wednesday, January 6th, Rev. V. M. Keiper officiating and he was laid at rest in the Dorchester Cemetery.

Henry Martens was born in Germany, August 22nd, 1867. When he was six years old, he with his parents and other members of the family, came to Manitowoc County, Wisconsin where he lived for fourteen years and in 1892 he moved near Dorchester, Wisconsin. On October 7, 1892 he was united in marriage to Mary Schrader. Four children were born to them, one daughter dying when 11 months old and three children, two daughters and one son surviving. They are Mrs. Frank Gumz, Mrs. Rudolph Dombrove and Irvin Martens.

He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and later renewed his vows by the act of confirmation and remained true to his early vows until death. Knowing that death was near his pastor was called for and administered the Sacrament of Lord’s Supper after showing faith and trust in his God, slipped away into the beyond.

A kind father, a good neighbor and friend, and an industrious citizen has gone never to return and that seemingly in the prime of life - 55 years, 4 months, 10 days - but God’s way are always best and when the summons comes we must all go.

The sorrowing ones have the sincere sympathy of a host of friends, who join us in offering condolence.

Note: Birth and death dates confirmed via ALHN - Clark County posted obits and Dorchester Memorial Cemetery Index, Twp. Mayville, Clark County.

*Note: Surname Schrader was published with this obituary. Surname Schroeder is recorded on the Dorchester Cemetery Index.
