Downer, Mary Luan (Marriage - 16 Jan. 1946)

Miss Mary Luan Downer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hallie Downer of Marshfield, Wis., Route 4, and Henry M. Weix, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Weix of Colby, were united in marriage at St. Mary’s church in Colby on Wednesday, January 16th, 1946, at 9:00 o’clock, A.M., Rev. N. Beschta officiating. The bride was attended by Patricia Weix, sister of the groom, as maid of honor and by Bernice Apfelbeck, friend of the bride, as bridesmaifd. The groom was attended by his brother, Alphonse Weix, and by Frank Carpenter of Abbotsford, Wis.

The bride was attired in a gown of white sheer ninon with Alencon lace yoke veil with train and also wore a gold cross, a gift of the groom. Her bouquet consisted of pink roses and white mums. The maid of honor wore a gown of pink net over taffeta, pink head veil and wore a gold locket, a gift of the bride. Her wrist corsage consisted of pink roses and mums. The bridesmaid wore a dress of blue net over taffeta and blue head veil and also wore a gold locket, a gift of the bride. Her wrist corsage consisted of pink roses and white mums.

The wedding breakfast was served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wescott at Colby, Wis.

A wedding reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents where a wedding dinner and supper were served. The home was nicely decorated with pink and blue streamers and large white wedding bells. A three-tier wedding cake, topped with a miniature bride and groom, and decorated with pink roses and sprays, centered the table. A wedding dance was given at the Municipal Hall at Spencer, Wis.

The groom was discharged from service in August, 1945, and now is employed by the Northwest Distributing Company at Colby, Wis. The bride had been employed at the Abbotsford Coffee Shoppe the past few months.

The couple left on a wedding trip to Northern Minnesota and will be at home after Feb. 1st at Colby, Wis.

Guests from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Martin Weix and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Weix, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Weix, Mrs. Frank Weix, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Schjonneman, Mrs. Harry Wescott and Jean Alexander of Colby, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Verkilen of Riplinger, Mrs. Hattie Verkilen of Little Chute, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Terwinski of Athens, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Tamborina of Antigo and Mr. and Mrs. August Schumacher of Fenwood.
