Lenore Marie Slota, age 86, of Thorp, WI, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2007, at Oakbrook Health & Rehab in Thorp.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 3, 2007, at St. Be4rnard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church, in Thorp, with Fr. Keith Apfelbeck officiating. Burial followed in St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry Brenner, Nick Brenner, Bob Brenner, John Swenson, Louis Slota and Ben Slota. Visitation was held at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Lenore Marie Moore was born on December 21, 1920 in Cleveland, TN, the daughter of Dr. John Callaway and Lenore (Wood) Moore. She grew up in Cleveland, TN and received her education at Nazareth Academy in Nazareth, KY, Girls’ Preparatory School in Chattanooga, TN, and at the University of Tennessee.

Lenore was united in marriage to Dr. Bernard Slota (of Gilman, WI) on November 28, 1945 in Cleveland, TN. The couple moved to Thorp, WI, where they raised five children. Dr. Slota died unexpectedly on July 19, 1970, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico while on vacation. After her husband’s death, she continued to live in Thorp. On June 27, 1974, she married Raymond V. Izydorek of Thorp, who also preceded her in death on September 11, 1978.

Lenore was a gentle and gracious woman, who loved life and her family. She never lost her southern accent. She enjoyed traveling to visit her family and friends in Tennessee, and her sister in Florida, until a broken hip hospitalized her ten years ago. Lenore was cared for at Oakwood Gardens, in Eau Claire, and at Comforts Home Senior Living and Lakeside Nursing & Rehabilitation, both in Chippewa Falls. Two years ago, Lenore moved to Oakbrook Health & Rehab in Thorp, where she was lovingly cared for by the Oakbrook staff. Her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Ginger (Gay) Slota, and her daughter, Sally (Slota) Swenson, have been her primary caregivers for the last ten years.

Lenore was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church and its Parish Council of Catholic Women, the Daughters of the Confederacy, the Gray Ladies Society, and the American Dental Society.

She is survived by five children: Candace (Jerry) Brenner of Stanley, Sally (John) Swenson of Chippewa Falls, Dr. Bernard (Kay) Slota of Golden, CO, Joseph (Ginger) Slota of Eau Claire, and Samuel (Jennifer) Slota of Chippewa Falls; nine grandchildren: Bob (Heather) Brenner of Stanley, Nick (Bridget) Brenner of Boyd, Sasha (Nick) Myers of Hood River, OR, John, Jerry and Joseph Slota, all of Colorado, Megan Slota of Studio City, CA, Ben Slota of Eau Claire, and Louis Slota of Chippewa Falls; five great-grandchildren: Blaine, Isaac and Cole Brenner of Stanley, and Emily Brenner and Collin Meyer of Boyd; one sister-in-law, Marjorie (Slota) Kiefer of Menomonee Falls; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her two husbands.

Lenore’s gentle ways and loving heart will be greatly missed by her family and those who knew her.

Thorp Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
