Bergemann, John Ronald (9 May 1922 - 30 April 2006)

John R. Bergemann

NEILLSVILLE -- John Ronald Bergemann, 83, Neillsville, died April 30, 2006, at home with his family by his side.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville, Wis. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the church.

The Gesche Funeral Home of Neillsville is assisting John's family with arrangements.

He was born May 9, 1922, in Granton to Gustave and Otillia (Breitenbach) Bergemann. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September 1943. He became a pharmacist mate and served in the invasion of France on D-Day. He was discharged Dec. 21, 1945. On April 16, 1945, he married Martha W. Erpenbach at St. Mary's Catholic Church. In January 1946, he started his apprenticeship to become a funeral director at Rembs Funeral Home in Marshfield. He worked there until he purchased the Cole Funeral Home in Neillsville in May 1949. He sold the funeral home in 1963 and became the hospital administrator at Neillsville Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1984.

John is survived by his wife, Martha; two sons, John A. (Charlotte) Bergemann, Waxahachie, Texas, Thomas (Laura) Bergemann, Lakewood, Colo.; a daughter, Jean (Keith Short), Wautoma, and a "special" daughter, Sue Bergemann, Neillsville; eight grandchildren and four great-grandsons; sister, Eileen (Edward) Davis, Ocala, Fla.; and two brothers, Harland Bergemann, Wisconsin Rapids, and Grant Bergemann, Tucson, Ariz.
