Sweda, John (1920? - 23 May 1942)

John Sweda, age 22, of Roosevelt township in Taylor county, died immediately after an auto crash in Taylor county Saturday afternoon. His car hit the ditch after striking a ridge of dirt in the center of the highway left by the blade of a patrol grader. He fell out as the car turned over and was pinned beneath the vehicle. When Alex Hanna, road patrolman, arrived on the scene a few minutes after the accident and righted the car with his grader and chain, Sweda was dead.

George Baker of Detroit, Mich., who accompanied him, was in the rear seat of the car, reloading a camera when Sweda apparently lost control of the car. He suffered only minor cuts and bruises.

Sweda is a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Sweda of Withee, route 2, and had arrived home from Chicago Saturday morning for a visit with his parents and was on his way back from Medford when he was killed.
