Leon F. Wnek, age 80, of Tomah, formerly of Thorp, passed away at eh VA Medical Center in Tomah, on Sunday, October 21, 2007.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2007, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp, with Father Keith Apfelbeck officiating. Burial followed in New St. Hedwig Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was held at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Leon Frank Wnek was born on October 26, 1926, in Thorp, WI to Frank and Mary (Roytek) Wnek, where he was raised and received his education. After graduating from Thorp High School, Leon entered the U. S. Army on January 24, 1945, and served until his discharge on December 2, 1946. He returned to Thorp after his discharge and worked for his father and mother at the Sky Club until the death of his father. He had many interests, but especially loved operating his deer farm, fishing, deer hunting, bowling, and playing football, baseball and softball in his younger years.

He was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Queen of Peace Council #4634, and the Thorp American Legion Post #118.

Leon is survived by one daughter, Jayne (Douglas) Neuckranz of Mesa, AZ; four granddaughters: Natalie, Angela, Michelle and Emily; and two nieces: Sandy Washer and Diane Hedler.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Eleanor Hedler.
