Woik, Theresa (16 Oct. 1854 - 8 Feb. 1941)

Mrs. Theresa Woik passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herta Sommers, in the town of Green Grove, on Saturday, February 8th, at the age of 86 years, three months, three weeks and one day. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday afternoon at St. Paul’s Lutheran church at Green Grove, Rev. M. C. Goetsch officiating, and internment was made in the parish cemetery. The pall bearers were Arthur Sommers, Ernst Woik, Anton Woik, Alvin Woik, Theo. Sommer and Paul Woik.

Mrs. Woik, whose maiden name was Huth, was born in Belgard, Pommerania, on the 16th day of October, 1854. At the age of 14 years she came to the United States with her sister and aunt. They settled in Chicago where the departed engaged in housework for a livelihood.

On the 29th day of June, 1878, she was united in marriage to August Sommer of Chicago. In the year 1880 they moved to Colby, living here for a year, when they returned to Chicago where in the early fall of 1881, August passed away, leaving her with two small children. She then moved to the town of Green Grove making her home with her deceased husband’s parents. On the 22nd day of March, 1884, she was married to August Woik of Green Grove. They settled on a farm where the departed resided until four years ago when ill health forced her to retire from active life and make her home with her married children. On the 9th day of April, 1940, she came to live with her daughter, Mrs. Herta Sommers.

She leaves to mourn nine children - Arthur Sommers and Hattie Glenzer of the first union; Ernst Woik, Anton Woik and Paul Woik of Owen, Herta Sommer and Alvin Woik of Curtiss and Olga McLaughlin and Hulda Nedley of Milwaukee. Also 15 grand children and four great grand children. Besides her husband, three sons preceded her in death. They were Herman, Otto and Rudolph.

The deceased was the oldest member of St. Paul’s Ladies’ Aid and a life-long member of the congregation. She was a good Christian and had a congenial and kind disposition and was well-liked by all who knew her.

Those who attended the funeral from away were Joe Janda of Chicago, Mrs. Frank Nedley, Mrs. John McLaughlin, Miss Alice McLaughlin, Mrs. Hana Henlich and daughter, Diane, all of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Sommer of Neenah, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schuette of Riplinger, Mr. and Mrs. L. Pacholke of Spencer and Mr. and Mrs. H. Schaeffler of Athens.
