Orth, Regina (14 Dec. 1851 - 20 Aug. 1939)

Mrs. John Orth died at the home of her son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Tesmer, Sunday afternoon at 5:00 o’clock of old age complications at the age of 88 years after an illness of two years and ten months. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 9:30 o’clock at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Rev. L. J. Lang officiating, and burial was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Sylvester Tesmer, Harry Orth, Harold Baumgart, Norman Orth, Leon Steinwand and John Orth, all grand sons of the deceased. Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Wayne Davis, Mrs. Roderick Cook, Miss Marie Baumgart, Mrs. Walter Frook, Mrs. Barbara Ohlinger, Mrs. Alvina Fields, all grand daughters.

Mrs. Orth, nee Regina Eisert, was born in Germany on December 14, 1851. She came to the United States with her parents when two years of age and located in Manitowoc county. She was married to John Orth in Cooperstown on October 11, 1870. Mr. and Mrs. Orth settled on a track of land in this community sixty-one years ago, and, by hard work and privations, built a splendid farm. Twenty-five years ago they moved to the city of Colby. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary eighteen years ago. Mr. Orth died two months after the celebration.

Surviving are five sons and five daughters: John, Matthew and Conrad of Colby, George of Abbotsford, Charles of Valley City, N. Dak., Mrs. Charles Eichlepp of Phillips, Mrs. Angus McKennon of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Otto Baumgart, Mrs. Paul Tesmer and Mrs. Theodore Steinwand, all of Colby. Two children, Peter and Mary, preceded them in death. There are also fifty grand children and thirty great grand children.

Mrs. Orth was a charter member of the Christian Mothers’ Society of St. Mary’s church for over fifty years. She was a good Christian, of a kindly disposition and the mother of a large and gifted family, many of whom now have "silver threads among the gold." Like all our early pioneers, none ever entered her home without a warm welcome nor left without feeling the warmth of a genuine hospitality.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mrs. Theo. Ohlinger, Mr. and Mrs. Ray O’Keef and Alex Love, all of Stevens Point, Miss Nancy Preuss of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Saetibear of Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Orth of Abbotsford, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Eistrum of Valley City, N.D., John Pflanzer of Phillips, Mrs. Cathrine McKinnon of St. Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Chas.
