Bauer, Julia (Marriage - 12 Aug. 1939)

A pretty wedding took place at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby Saturday, August 12th, at nine o’clock when Miss Julia Bauer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Bauer of Colby, became the bride of Woodrow Bergner of Athens. Rev. N. Bingen of St. Anthony’s church of Athens officiated and read the nuptial mass at the altar which was adorned with tall lighted tapers and large cluster bouquets of golden glow and white gladioli.

The bride was charming in a white lace entrained gown designed on princess lines over a foundation of satin. The fingertip veil of tulle was arranged with a butterfly bow, and her only ornament was a cameo locket, a gift of the bridegroom. She carried an arm bouquet of white and pink asters and roses.

Mrs. Frank Hollman of Colby, sister of the bride, was matron of honor, and Miss Cathy Hansen of Shawano, niece of the bridegroom, was bridesmaid. They wore silk chiffon floor length gowns of pink and blue respectively, fashioned alike, with fitted bodices, and large puffed sleeves. Their hairdresses were butterfly bows, with shoulder length veils to match their dresses. They carried arm bouquets of pink and white asters.

Frank Hollman, brother in law of the bride, and Arle Bergner of Wausau, brother of the bridegroom, were his attendants.

Master Mickey Braun of Athens led the bridal party, carrying the ring attached to a white ribbon and flowers. He wore a white satin tailed suit, and was followed by the little flower girls, Beverly Braun of Athens and Kay Janice Druckrey of Shawano, niece of the bridegroom. They were attired in floor length gowns of yellow taffeta designed with shirred bodices and with shoulder lacing of pink and blue, and carried baskets of sweet peas. The bride was given in marriage by her father.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held and dinner served at the Bauer home, covers being laid for seventy guests. A large wedding cake centered the table and garden flowers were used as decorations.

The bride is a graduate of the Colby, Wis. High School, and has been employed as stenographer at Athens the past two years. Mr. Bergner is a teacher at the Athens school. The young couple left on a wedding trip to northern Wisconsin and Minnesota, and will be at home at Athens after September 1st.
