Ohlinger, John (17 Aug. 1860 - 3 Aug. 1939)

John Ohlinger died at his home in the town of Hull Thursday morning, August 3rd, complications of ten years duration being the cause of his death. His recent illness was of eleven days. Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby Monday morning at nine o’clock and internment was made in the Colby Catholic cemetery, Rev. Brady of Abbotsford officiating. Grand sons acted as pall bearers and were Halarian Schmitt, Milton Ohlinger, Leon Apfelbeck, Robert Gindt, Edward Gindt, and Charles Ohlinger. The flowers were in charge of grand daughters - Lillian Gindt, Mildred Apfelbeck, Rosemary Apfelbeck, Lucille Apfelbeck and Stella Apfelbeck.

Mr. Ohlinger was born in Triere, Germany, August 17th, 1860, thus reaching the age of 78 years, 11 months and 15 days. He came to the United States with his parents when two years of age and settled in Dodge county. In 1884 the deceased came to the town of Hull and engaged in farming but was also prominent in threshing grain and bailing hay. He held the office of assessor for the town of Hull for four years. He was married to Mary Kaiser at the Catholic church in Colby on October 27th, 1885. Thirteen children were born to this union, three of whom preceded Mr. Ohlinger in death.

Surviving are his wife, four sons and six daughters, namely - Bert Ohlinger of Munising, Mich., Elenora Quinn of Lancaster, Wis., Theresa Fortman of Fort Recovery, Ohio, Lawrence Ohlinger of Colby, Mrs. Susie Gindt of Boyd, Helda Apfelbeck of Colby, Margaret Apfelbeck of Colby, John Ohlinger of Colby. Also 54 grand children and one great grand child. Mrs. Robert Schmitt passed away June 30, 1932, and two died in infancy.

The deceased was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Mary’s church. He was a good Christian of generous impulses and never forgot the hospitable ways of the pioneer. He was a man who united sound sense with strong convictions and filled the various relations in life and filled them well.

Kaiser and son, Oliver, Arnold and Theresa Kaiser, Andrew Kaiser and daughters, Florence and Marion, Mr. and Mrs. Jean Stnies, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kerich, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kaiser, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kaiser, Myron and George Kaiser, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hughes, John Spaith, Miss Theresa Kaiser, all of Stratford, Mrs. Len Sargent and Margaret and Leo Hughes of Wausau, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Sheekey and daughter, Margaret, of Ettrick, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Weber of Auburndale, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Eshinger of Stanley, Mr. and Mrs. E. Hebig of Marshfield, Mrs. Frank Ohlinger, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ohlinger, Jr., and son, Mrs. Augustine Dryz, Miss Veronice Burger, Walles Berger, all of Chicago, Raymond Schmitt of Black Wells, Isadore Schmitt of Iron River, Halerian Schmitt, Genevieve Schmitt and Henrietta Schmitt of Oshkosh.
