Mathew Zukowski died at his home three miles east of the village (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.) on Monday, Nov. 21st, 1938, of a heart attack the result of old age complications. He had reached the ripe old age of eight-seven years, six months and six days.

Mr. Zukowski was born in Poland on May 15, 1851. He was united in marriage to Frances Kalicki in that country on Nov. 18, 1876 and in 1901 emigrated to America with the family. Landing at New York, he arrived at Thorp on June 8th, and has since been a resident of the Thorp country. He spent two years in the town of Roosevelt, near Whipple dam, before purchasing a farm in the town of Taft, when the family resided until 1909. Mr. Zukowski became the owner of the farm and store just east of Thorp where he lived until death. His many friends and countrymen deeply regret his passing but will cherish the memory of one who was jovial, congenial and fair to all.

Surviving relatives are five sons, George, John, Louis and Peter of Thorp, and Frank of Chicago, three daughters, Mrs. Jennie Nieman of Aberdeen, Wash., Mrs. Mary (Jos.) Jarocki and Miss Tillie Zukowski of Thorp.

Funeral services were held at St. Hedwig’s Church at ten o’clock Thursday morning. The clergy participating in the requiem mass were the Reverends Kulig and Witorowski, local pastors, Father W. Kolman of Gilman, and Father Stanley Andrzejewski of Junction. The remains were laid in the parish cemetery beside his wife who passed away on Sept. 11, 1923. Pallbearers were Jack, Felix, Willie, Julius and Felix Zukowski, Louis and Emil Jarocki and Mike Kalicki.

The following relatives from out of town were here to attend the funeral: Frank Zukowski and daughter Dorothy, Miss Jennie Laniewski, Tony Dymie, Veronica and Clara Zukowski, all of Chicago.
