Hayes, Julian (24 JAN 1854 - 11 SEP 1938)

Julian J. Hayes, an old resident of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) and vicinity, passed away her very suddenly on Sunday morning, Sept. 11, 1938, at ten o’clock, of heart failure and the infirmities of old age.

Mr. Hayes was born on Jan. 24, 1854, in the town of Eden in Fond du Lac Co. and had reached the age of eighty-four years, seven months and seventeen days. He attended high school in the city of Fond du Lac and later taught school for several years.

On Jan. 17, 1878, he married Augusta Ulrich at Lomira, Wis. The following year he and his wife moved to the Town of Reseburg (Clark Co.), where they built a nice home in the middle of what was then just forest. He was elected chairman of the Town of Reseburg and served faithfully for a number of years.

On May 10, 1909, Mr. and Mrs. Hayes moved to the village of Thorp, where they lived until the death of Mrs. Hayes on May 20, 1933. After her death Mr. Hayes came to live with his daughter, Mrs. Jerry Asselin, and spent his remaining years among old friends and neighbors.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Anton Lauer (Ada), of Chippewa Falls and Mrs. Jerry Asselin (Nettye) of Thorp; two granddaughters, Mrs. Otto Berg of Chippewa and Eunice Asselin of Thorp; two great-grandchildren, Eugene and Lois Jean Berg of Chippewa Falls; and three sisters, Mrs. Fred Grandman and Mrs. Guy Nichols of Lomira, Wis., and Mrs. Thell Nichols of Hastings, Minn.

Those acting as pallbearers were: Mike Kronberg, Victor Soli, Carl Klouda, John Roth, Joseph Bogumill, Theodore Broeren. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church at two o’clock on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. James Irish officiating, interment taking place in the East Thorp Cemetery.

Among out of town relatives and friends attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Anton Lauer and Mrs. and Mrs. Otto Berg and daughter, Lois Jean, of Chippewa Falls; Mrs. Fred Grandman, Mrs. Elmer Grandman, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kline and little son, Mrs. Walter Tausman, Mrs. Frank Hayes and daughter, Miss Ann Hayes, Mr. Andrew Hayes, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hayes and daughter, Evelyn, all from the vicinity of Fond du Lac; Mr. and Mrs. Math Lauer, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Lauer, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rivers of Stanley.
