Hoppa, Mildred Elizabeth (Marriage - 10 June 1939)

Miss Mildred Elizabeth Hoppa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hoppa of Colby, and Mr. Donald Schultz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward R. Schultz of Colby, exchanged nuptial vows at a double ring ceremony Saturday morning at nine o’clock before the altar of St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby which was decorated with numerous lighted candles and large bouquets of roses, bridal wreath and peonies. Rev. L. J. Lang celebrated the nuptial high mass and the bride’s nephews, James and Emanuel Firnstahl, and the groom’s brother, Jerome Schultz, and John Arends served at the mass.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was lovely in an entrained gown of white mousseline de soie, trimmed with tiny covered buttons and insertions of chantilly lace on the shoulders down the length of the sleeves and on the train. Her long tulle veil, with lace inserting to match the gown, had a fan-shaped headdress caught with a tiara of seed pearls and tiny rose buds. She carried a prayer book and an arm bouquet of yellow talisman roses and swansonia.

Miss Marguerite Schultz attended as maid of honor and Miss Dorothy Schultz was bridesmaid. Both are sisters of the bridegroom. The former was attired in a dainty gown of yellow organdy, trimmed with little ruffles, while the latter’s gown was of a delicate peach organdy, ruffled trimmed. They wore garlands of roses as headdresses and their corsages were comprised of roses and sweet peas in harmonizing shades.

The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Walter C. Schultz, as best man and George Fischer, Kohler, a cousin, as groomsman.

Little Dolores Firnstahl, a niece of the bride, was the flower girl. She wore a pretty frock of white taffeta trimmed with tiny ruffles, a white ribbon bow in her hair and carried a basket of yellow roses and syringas.

The young ladies’ choir, of which the bride had been a member, sang the mass of the Blessed Virgin, and an "Ave Maria" was sung at the offeratory.

A reception followed the ceremony at the home of the bride’s parents, where 75 guests will be entertained at dinner and supper. House decorations were carried out with huge bouquets of roses, bridal wreath and peonies.

A wedding dance was given the same evening at Wiedenhoeft’s park.

The bridegroom, a graduate of the Colby, Wis. High school, is engaged in farming in the town of Hull. His bride had been employed at the home of Dr. A. L. Schemmer the past three and a half years.

Following a trip to northern Wisconsin and Canada, the young couple will be at home to friends after June 30th.

Those at the wedding reception were Mr. and Mrs. George Hoppa and sons, Kenneth and Arvin, of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hoppa of Neillsville, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Firnstahl, sons, James and Emanuel, and daughter, Dolores, Rev. L. J. Lang, Dr. and Mrs. A. L. Schemmer, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hollman, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Wollert, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Baer and Mr. and Mrs. Ed.
