Wiles, Wallace (11 May 1929 - 22 Aug 2007)

Wallace Wiles, 78, Prentice, died on Saturday, September 22nd, 2007, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home, Phillips.

Friends may call at the West Gym of Prentice High School after 11 a.m. on Saturday.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 29th, at the West Gym of Prentice High School with Pastor Sandra Johnson of First Lutheran Church presiding. Military honors will be conducted by the Southern Price County VFW post, the 10th VFW District, and the Wisconsin DVA Honors Team. Interment will be in the Prentice Cemetery.

Wallace was born on May 11th, 1929, to James and Meda (Conner) Wiles.

He spent his entire life in the Prentice area, attended Pennington grade school and was a 1947 graduate of Prentice High School.

Wallace served his country in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1946 to 1951, and then entered the U.S. Army serving in Germany and France until April of 1953.

He was married to Sophia Erickson in Prentice on April 21st, 1951. Wallace was employed by Mid State Cheese from 1947 to 1951, the Wisconsin Conservation department, then the Soo Line Railroad transferring the mail, and finally by the Prentice School District from 1961 until the time of his retirement in November of 2004.

In Wallace’s free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, softball and baseball. He served as Quartermaster for the Southern Price County VFW Post 8491 for 50 years and for 12 years for the 10th District of Wisconsin. Wallace was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Prentice where he served on the Church Council for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Sophia; three sons, DeWayne (Dale) Prentice, L. James, Prentice and Gerald (Sandra), Prentice; one daughter, Julie (Martin) Netland, St. Joe, AR; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Wallace was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Neomia Wiles and one great-great granddaughter.

The Heindl Funeral Home, Prentice, is assisting the family with arrangements.
