Plecko, Helen L. (April 9, 1922 - September 5, 2007)

Helen L. Plecko, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2007.

Helen was born in Banner, Kentucky on April 9, 1922, the daughter of John and Mary (Jopa) Halida. As a young girl, she grew up in Kentucky and West Virginia before moving with her family to Lublin, WI. On June 20, 1942 she was united in marriage to Steve Plecko in Chicago, IL. They later lived in the Medford area before moving to Lublin in 1954 where they farmed until 1962. They then moved to Gilman where she worked at the Gilman Nursing Home, and then moved to Eau Claire where she worked for over 12 years at Sacred heart Hospital until retirement. She was a long-time member of St. Mary’s PNCC in Lublin, WI. Besides her love for her family, she enjoyed gardening, socializing and singing at the Dove Health Care Center.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Robert (Susan) Plecko of Houlton, WI and Mike (Judy) of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren; three brothers: Edward (Verna) Halida of Marshfield, WI, Stanley (Stella) Halida of Lublin, and Lawrence (Harriet) Halida of Loyal, WI; one sister, Virginia Korplaski of Chicago, IL; plus many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Steve, in 1986; one sister, Dorothy Vanderhagen; and two brothers: Frank and Leo Halida.

Services and burial were held on Saturday, September 8, 2007, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church, Lublin. Visitation was held one hour prior to service time at the church.
