Shumway, Edna H. (Marriage - 1942)

Mr. and Mrs. James I. Wankovich stopped here last Thursday on their way home to Racine after a brief wedding trip to Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota, remaining there until Sunday afternoon with her mother, Mrs. Vera Shumway.

The young people were married in St. Luke’s Episcopal chapel, the Rev. Alexander Simpson officiating. A fifteen-minute organ recital, played by Claytn Dow, preceded the service which united in marriage Miss Edna H. Shumway and James I. Wankovich, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Wankovich, 3704 Thirteen Avenue, Kenosha. Baskets of flowers, candelabra and palms provided a lovely background for the ceremony.

The bride’s gown was of white velveray on organza, styled with tight bodice, long sleeves forming points at the wrist, a long sweeping train and sweetheart neckline. Her fingertip veil of silk illusion, trimmed with lace, fell from a pearlized tiara. She carried white gladioli, stevia and orange blossoms.

The bride’s sister, Miss Alice Shumway, was maid of honor. She was attired in a maize-colored dress with French top, tight bodice, high neckline and a full, sweeping skirt of organza, Miss Vivian Owen, the bridesmaid, was similarly gowned in blue. Both carried bouquets of gladioli and Stevia.

Roland Mason acted as best man, Thomas Lloyd, the bride’s uncle, serving as usher.

Dinner for twelve was given at the Hotel Nelson, preceded by a reception for 200 at Roma Hall where a buffet luncheon was served. Among the out of town guests were: Mrs. Vera Shumway, Mrs. Ed. Lloyd, Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. John Wankovich, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shakus, Mrs. Stanley Kuroski, Kenosha; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Flint and children, Milwaukee.

Mrs. Wankovich was graduated from the Neillsville High school in 1936, having grown to young womanhood in this community. For several years she has been employed with the Hartman Truck Co., Racine, Wis. Mr. Wankovich an employee of the Racine Tool Co., is a graduate of the Kenosha High School, completing the course there in 1935.

The couple will be at home at 1707 Spring Street, Racine.

Showers were given for the bride by Misses Alice Shumway and Vivian Owen; Mrs. Chester Matelski, and co-workers at Hartman Truck Co.
