Chase, Dora (19 Jan. 1869 - 7 June 1942)

Mrs. Dora Chase died at 1:30 a.m. Friday, June 5, 1942, at the Neillsville Hospital, after an illness of several weeks.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 7, 1942, at the Schiller Funeral Home, Rev. G. W. Longenecker conducting the rites. Interment took place in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Mrs. Chase was born in Denmark, January 19, 1869, her maiden name being Dora Nelsen. She came to America 54 years ago, marrying Joseph Chase in Waushara County September 29, 1892, living there until 1910. They moved to Neillsville that year, purchasing the Foote homestead east of the fairgrounds where they made their home for the balance of their lives. Since the death of her husband in August, 1932, Mrs. Chase and her children had carried on the farm.

Their family numbered twelve children and two step-children, namely: Arthur, Oshkosh; Lyman, Ina, Fanny, Neillsville; Clarence and Howard, Chicago; (Muriel) Mrs. Otto Kutchera; Elmer, Roy, Joseph, Jr., Neillsville; (Lillian) Mrs. Clayton Whitney, Onalaska; (Leona) Mrs. Milo Mabie, Neillsville; Harry, Princeton, Wis., and (Blanche) Mrs. Harold Dunbar, all of whom, except the latter, are living. Also surviving are a brother in Denmark and a sister, Mrs. C. R. Nelsen, Waupaca.

Mrs. Chase was a quiet, home loving woman, deeply understanding and warmly sympathetic, ever denying herself that others might be the more comfortable. Earlier in life she took an active part in the work of the Baptist Church, during later years devoting most of her time to her family and to the reading of good literature. Mrs. Chase enjoyed long drives through the country that she might view the beauty of the landscape, being an ardent lover of nature.

Out of town relatives who came for the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Chase, Princeton; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Chase and son, Arthur, Jr., Oshkosh; Clarence Chase, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Chase, and sons, Conrad and Wayne, Chicago; Mrs. Clayton Whitney (Lillian), Onalaska; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Taplin, Wautoma; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Staford, Mrs. Roy Bartleson, John Eastman, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Eastman and son, Eugene; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Gotham and son, Roger, Kenneth Eastman, Mrs. C. B. Nielsen, and son Ellsworth and daughter, Alma, all of Waupaca.
