Martin, Anna (Marriage - 27 Oct. 1936)

A very pretty wedding took place at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby Tuesday morning, Rev. L. J. Lang performing the ceremony at a nuptial high mass, when Miss Magdaline Anna Martin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Martin, became the bride of Mr. Rudolph J. Weix. Miss Doretta Martin, sister of the bride, was maid of honor and Miss Martha Zila of Winona, Minn., was bridesmaid. The groom was attended by Arthur Hemmy Jr. and Wilbur Becker.

The bride was attired in a beautiful floor length gown of white transparent velvet, fashioned along princess lines, and an entrained veil in tunic style and arranged in tiara effect caught with seed pearls. Her bouquet consisted of chrysanthemums and roses. The maid of honor wore a gown of brown transparent velvet with matching turban and silver accessories. The bridesmaid wore a dress of moss green velvet with matching turban and accessories in gold. Both carried bouquets of chrysanthemums and fall flowers.

Following the ceremony, a breakfast for the bridal party was served at the home of the bride’s parents. A reception and dinner was held at 4:30, covers being laid for fifty guests. The home was nicely decorated with cut flowers.

The groom, a son of Michael Weix, is a graduate of the Colby, Wis. High school and is a World War veteran. He is in the garage business. The newlyweds will make a wedding trip to various points east and will be at home after November 10th.

Biter, Mary (15 Mar 1850 - Mar 1906)

Mary Lalone was born at Potsdam, St. Lawrence Co., N.Y., March 15, 1850. She came to Pine Valley, Clark Co., Wis., in 1868, where, after two years, she married Joseph Biter, July 3rd, 1870. After their marriage they settled on a farm in Pleasant Ridge, where she lived an industrious and happy life, sharing cheerfully all the trials and hardships of pioneer life with her husband. To them no children were born, but her mother heart went out to a little girl, whom they adopted and cared for with true maternal affection. This adopted girl, now the wife of Mr. Stoffle, mourns the loss of a kind and loving mother.

In Dec. of 1904, Mr. Biter and his wife planned to take life a little easier, after about thirty-four years of hard work on their farm. Mrs. Biter went to California in Dec. of 1904, where she was joined by her husband in June of the following year. Together they traveled through Washington and concluded to settle down, for a time at least, in the city of Portland, Ore., where they were living at the time of her death.

Mrs. Biter leaves to mourn her sudden departure, a husband, an adopted daughter, one sister who lives in Portland, and two sisters and a brother living in St. Lawrence, N.Y.

Goeden, Edward (30 JUN 1891 - 10 MAR 1906)

Another proof that death pays no regards to age and spares not even the tender youth is the untimely demise of Edward Goeden, second child and only son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Goeden, who passed away Saturday at 7:30 p.m. His death was brought on by the effects of diabetes, the first symptoms of which appeared about a year and a half ago. The unsparing scythe of Death mowed down its victim at the tender age of 14 years, 8 months and 10 days. He was a good obedient boy and fond delight of his parents and the blow has left a deep wound in their hearts.

The funeral was held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from St. Mary?s Church, conducted by Rev. J.L. Hauck. His sermon was impressive and consoling. It was one of the largest funeral gatherings seen in this city (Neillsville, Clark County) in a long time.

Zassenhaus, Helene E. (? - 29 Mar 1906)

It is my sad duty to announce the sudden loss by death of one of the most beloved and efficient members of the staff of the White Cross Visiting Nurses Association. Miss Helene E. Zassenhaus, daughter of the well known citizen and Ex-Register of Deeds of Clark County, Wis. William Zassenhaus, died at 2 a.m. Wednesday March 29th, 1906, at the Chicago Baptist Hospital from appendicitis. She had been seriously ill only since the previous Friday and all was done that human skill and love could do. Her father and sister Mrs. Agnes Burpee were with her for fourteen hours before she fell asleep, which was a great consolation to her as well as a satisfaction to the family. Miss Zassenhaus was thirty years old and had been a member of our staff of graduate nurses for the past three years. She was a young lady of very high ideals with a clear well cultivated mind, beautified by a sweet unselfish spirit manifested on all occasions, which made her beloved by all with whom she associated. Her father and sister, Mrs. Burpee, took the body home to Colby, Wis. and were accompanied to the train by the officers and twenty of her former co-laborers of the White Cross Visiting Nurse Association, who through their tears expressed their loved and sympathy to the stricken father and sister.
