Wilkening, Emma (22 Jan. 1880 - 16 Feb. 1936)

Mrs. Henry Wilkening died at her home in the town of Colby Sunday forenoon after being ill since last August. Funeral services were held at Lulloff funeral home Wednesday at 1:30 and at the St. John’s Evangelical church at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. E. Becker officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. The pall bearers were Otto Baumgart, Chas. Schulz, Angus Lamont, John Marx, Hugo Hafemann and E. D. Loos. The flower girls were Leona Kramer, Marie Baumgart, Katherine Lamont and Gladys Hafemann.

Mrs. Wilkening, nee Emma Kleinert, was born in Germany on January 22, 1880, thus reaching the age of fifty-six years and twenty-five days. She emigrated to Canada in 1906 and later moved to Milwaukee where she married Henry Wilkening in 1910. After their marriage, the couple moved onto the present farm home.

The deceased is survived by her husband, one daughter, Margaret, at home, one son, William, of Milwaukee, two sisters, Mrs. Max Rudinger of Milwaukee and Mrs. Anna Hernstein of Canada and a sister and brother, William, in Germany.

Mrs. Wilkening was a good Christian and a faithful member of St. John’s Ev. church. She was a true friend and her devotion to those she loved would make a bright chapter in any life. Her retiring nature led her to hide her best qualities from public gaze but they were revealed to those who enjoyed her acquaintance. Her many friends in her neighborhood will miss her as well as the members of her family.
