Benzschawel, Barbara (1 NOV 1864 - 18 JUN 1937)

Mrs. Nick Benzschawel, Sr., 72, passed away at her home in this village (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.) of heart trouble on Friday, June 18th, 1937, after only a few hours illness.

Barbara Keller was born at Slinger, Wis., on Nov. 1, 1864. She was united in marriage to Nick Bezschawel at St. John, Wis., in 1891. For a time her home was in Calumet Co. and in 1898 located on a farm in the town of Worden (Clark Co.). She moved to the village with her husband six years ago, to enjoy the retiring years of an industrious and well spent life. Her life was gentle, but like the still waters, it was deep. In her heart of hearts she carried those she loved and her hand was never weary, her step never failed in ministering unto, caring for, waiting upon those who were in any way dependent upon her.

She leaves to mourn, her husband, six sons, Robert, Nick Jr., Frank, Peter, Joseph and Anton, all of Thorp; three daughters, Edith (Mrs. Andrew Heiman) and Margaret (Mrs. Anton Micke), of Thorp, and Clara (Mrs. Otto Schoenberger), of St. Paul; one brother, Henry Keller of Owen, and thirty-five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at St. Bernard’s Church at nine o’clock on Tuesday morning, Rev. A.M. Muckerheide officiating, and interment taking place in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Anton Baldeschwiler, Paul Schmidt, Anton Micke, Jos. Gengler, W.A. Wilhelm and Fred Driessen.

Relatives and friends from out of town to attend the funeral were: Mat Benzschawel, Cato, Wis.; Mike Benzschawel, Appleton; Geo. Benzschawel, Reedsville; Mike Benzschawel, New Holstein; Miss Marie Benzschawel, St. Paul; Mrs. Math Thelen, Hilbert; Mrs. Mike Derfus, Appleton; Mrs. Joe Casper, Malone, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Schoenborn, St. Cloud, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Nick L. Kees, Hilbert, and Nick Kees, Sr., Hilbert.
