Metcalfe Ted "The Bear"(1952 - 2007)

Ted 'The Bear' Metcalfe

Ted R. Metcalfe, 56, of 705 E. 29 St., died on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Saint Joseph's Hospital as the result of a motorcycle accident in Clark County on Friday.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug 2, 2007, at Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Home. Burial will be in Brooklawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in the town of Richfield, Wood Co.

Visitation will be from 4 p. m. to 8 p. m. Wednesday and from 9:30 a. m. until service time Thursday, both at the funeral home.

Ted was born on Nov.11, 1952, in Elgin ILL., to Roger and Donna Metcalfe. He moved to Spencer with his parents in 1952 and graduated from Spencer High School in 1969.

He married the girl next door, also from Spencer, Judy M. Dunbar, on June 27, 1970.

Ted worked for Quality Roofing from 1969 until 1989 then drove truck for Hanefeld Brothers of Burnett from 1990 until the present time.

He loved riding his motorcycle with his wife and friends, traveling, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. He loved to sing karaoke and have a good time. NASCAR was a highlight of his weekends. His old car was his baby that he really liked to show off.

Ted is survived by his wife Judy; three children, Terrie (Chuck) Newman of Findley, Ohio, Jolene Metcalfe of Pittsville and Mathew (Eliza) Metcalfe of Marshfield; and seven grandchildren, Casara, Ervin, Dustin, Harley, Hailey, Madyson and Logan. He is further survived by one sister, Dawn (Ken) David of Withee; one brother Darryl (Tina) Metcalfe of Albany, Minn., and many nieces and nephews.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

He was a big man with a big heart, who loved everything he did.

"The Bear" will be missed by everyone he knew.

Motorcycle Fatality

Clark County Sheriffs Department responded to a motorcycle crash at 7:30 p.m. Friday on County Highway G, in the town of Hendren about two miles south of Willard.

Theodore Metcalfe, 56, of Marshfield, was airlifted to Saint Joseph's Hospital where he died on Saturday of injuries sustained after his motorcycle struck a deer.

This is the third fatality in Clark County for 2007.

Memorial Benefit for Ted Metcalfe scheduled

Events to raise money for a memorial to Ted "The Bear" Metcalfe, 55 (56) of Marshfield, who died as a result of a motorcycle crash in Clark County on Friday, are planned for this weekend at Abare's Outer Limits, 9850 County Y.

"We were very close friends," said bar owner Dick Hebert.

From 8 p.m. to closing time on Friday there'll be Hurricane Karaoke and the new Bear drink will be unveiled.

Starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, Elvis impersonator G. L. Wesley and his wife, Elaine, will perform, followed by entertainment by Hippy. There also will be tournaments and contests, with the proceeds going toward the memorial fund.
