Patitz, Bertha (27 June 1855 - 26 Oct. 1933)

Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Patitz, whose death was chronicled last week, were held at the St. John’s Evangelical church Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. G. F. Hahn officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery beside her husband who passed away twenty-one years ago. The pall bearers were Matt Schmidt, Fred Grambort, Fred Stettler, Wm. Schwantes, Wm. Strathman and Aug. Stock. Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Fred Nietch, Mrs. Fred Strade, Mrs. Herman Wolk and Mrs. Wm. Ebert.

Mrs. Patitz, nee Bertha Hingiss, was born in Manitowoc county, June 27, 1855, thus reaching the age of seventy-eight years, three months and twenty-nine days. She continued to live in Manitowoc county until her marriage to Mr. Ernest Patitz on Nov. 17th, 1879. Shortly after their marriage they moved onto the farm now occupied by William Herrmann and family near Curtiss where they lived until twenty-one years ago when they came to Colby. Mr. Ernest Patitz died shortly afterward.

The couple had one child which died in infancy but they brought up a niece and nephew, Mrs. George Patitz and William Hingiss. Mrs. Patitz is also survived by a sister and five brothers, namely: Mrs. Mary Tanner of Chicago, Ferdinand Hingiss of Curtiss, Albert Hingiss of Curtiss, Henry Hingiss of Sheboygan, Fred Hingiss of Cleveland and Adolph Hingiss of Kiel.

The deceased was a faithful member of the St. John’s Ev. church and the Ladies’ Aid of that church. She always endeavored to take good care of her family rather than engage in many social activities, was a good neighbor and never forgot the hospitable ways of the early settlers.
