Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Mais Observe Event Sunday at Home of Son
A family re-union was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Mais at Medford Sunday in observance of the sixtieth wedding anniversary of the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Mais of Colby, who were the honor guests at dinner. Out of town guests present were Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Frome of Manitowoc, Mrs. Leone Buchholz and two sons, Donald and Duane, of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Jos Cox and son, Denny, and Marie and Adene Mais of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Mais and son, Bobbie, of Neenah, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Mais of Oshkosh, Mrs. Anna Curran and Joe Engleking, niece and nephew of Mr. Mais, of Phillips, Irene Duffy of Chicago and Mrs. Sook of Spencer.
Mr. Stephen Mais was born April 31st, 1852, at Johnsville, Wis., and Mrs. Mais was born Dec. 13, 1855, at Two Rivers, Wisconsin. They were married on September 7th, 1873, just sixty years ago, by the father of the late Senator Walsh. Fifty years ago, they moved onto a track of land in the town of Unity which, by hard and diligent work, they built into a splendid farm. This country was practically all wilderness at the time, trails were blazed through the woods and oxen were the chief bearers of burden. Twenty years ago, they sold their farm to their son, Paul, when they retired and moved to Colby. Like all our early pioneers, they endured many hardships but never forgot the early, friendly and hospitable ways. Mr. Mais is a member of the Zion Lutheran church of Colby and Mrs. Mais is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church, and, at present, both are enjoying perfect health.
Four generations were present at the dinner Sunday. The children are: John Mais of Medford, Mrs. H. J. Welsch of Colby, Mrs. Chas. Frome of Manitowoc, Mr. Paul Mais of Unity. The grand children: Leone Buchholz of Milwaukee, Nola Dessloch of Colby, Violetta Spiering of Manitowoc, Lester Mais of Neenah, Maurice Mais of Oshkosh, Lauretta Cox, Adene Mais and Marie Mais of Chicago, Beatrice Mais and Hubert Mais of Unity, Maybelle Mais, Geraldine Mais and Lucile Mais of Medford. The great grand children are: Donald and Duane Buchholz of Milwaukee, Robert Mais of Neenah, Robert Spiering of Mantitowoc, Denny Cox of Chicago.
