Schuhmann, Alois (21 June 1852 - 3 Aug. 1933)

Alois Schuhmann, a former Colbyite, died at Abbotsford last Thursday after an illness of seven months, cancer being the cause of his departure. The deceased had reached the age of eighty-one years, one month and twelve days. Funeral services were held at St. Bernard’s Catholic church at Abbotsford, Rev. Father Gaffney officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. The pall bearers were Joe McCabe, Louis Heisler, Edward Teala, Edward Sybeldon, Frank Beil and Peter Van Roy.

Alois Schuhmann was born June 21, 1852 in Bavaria, Germany and came to the United States when he was 17 years old. With his parents he settled at Marathon City where he became a miller and operated flour mills at Marathon City, Rib Falls, Cherokee, Colby and Hemlock.

In 1903 he was married at Colby to Ann Schneider who survives him. Surviving also are two sisters.

Out of town people present at the funeral were Mrs. Leo Bates, Steins, New Mexico; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Kisstein and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. John Kerstein, Marathon City; Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Hastreiter, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Haebig, Mrs. Jacob Hoffmann, all of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bogumill and Mrs. Wm. Wagner, Jr., Thorp; Mrs. Frieda Conrad and Mrs. Otto Sturner, Curtiss, Wis.
