McCalvy, Robert & Ann (Gold - 14 JAN 1899)

Mr. and Mrs. Robert McCalvy of Pine Valley (Clark Co., Wis.) have issued invitations for their golden wedding, to be celebrated at their home west of the city on the 14th of Jan., 1899, at 2 o’clock. This hale and hearty couple are a notable example of what a temperate, quiet life will do for people. Mr. McCalvy’s life has not all been peace and quiet, however, for he is a veteran of the civil war, and we doubt not that if his wife would reveal all the truth it would be seen that she, too, has had her stormy times upon life’s sea, for "Uncle Bob," when he gets to raging against free silver, Democracy or Spain, must be a hot one to have about the place. Mr. McCalvy, when he lived up on the 26 road in the early days, used to work all day and then walk ten miles to Neillsville for the pleasure of attending Republican ratification meetings and marching in the torchlight processions, and we have seen him with torchlight oil running down his head, hollering at the top of his no-way mellow voice, for Grant and Hayes, Harrison and McKinley, and that’s why the Times is now hollering for him. He was one of the organizers of Co. A., in the days of Jack King, Ferguson and those old boys who hadn’t got past their soldiering days.
