Oestreich, Adolph (26 DEC 1853 - 2 JUN 1939)

Again, as so often in the past several months, death has called one of Loyal’s early settlers. Adolph Oestreich, 85 years of age, died at 10 o’clock Friday A. M., June 2. Mr. Oestreich had not been well for several years but the immediate cause of his death was pneumonia.

He was born in Schoenhof, Germany, December 26, 1853. When 19 years of age he and a younger brother Gottlieb came to the United States and settled in Plymouth, Wis.

The place of birth of the deceased, Schoenhof in Province Mecklenburg—Schwerin, Germany, and his emigrating to America in 1871 was at the close of the Franco-Prussian War. This was the year after the historical Chicago fire.

After living in several places in Wisconsin he came to Clark County in 1883. He purchased a farm in the township of Sherman, 5 miles northeast of Loyal. Here he cleared the land and built a home and to this home he brought his bride, Theresa Meuche, after their marriage in Granton, Aug. 14, 1884. On this farm their eleven children were born, ten of whom survive him. Mrs. Oestreich also survives her husband. Mr. and Mrs. Oestreich celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in August, 1934.

Mr. Oestreich was a good farmer and his farm and home were his chief interests. He served terms on the school board while living on the farm. He was a member of the local Lutheran Church. Twenty-two years ago the Oestreichs left their farm home and moved into Loyal, where they purchased a home on the west side of the village.

The children surviving Mr. Oestreich are Alfred and Frank of Loyal; Mrs. Charles (Elsie) Lucht, Loyal; Mrs. Elmer (Edna) Duehning, Oklahoma; Walter and Harry, Park Falls; Mrs. Jens (Lorena) Yde, Minnesota; Mrs. Will (Evelyn) Vogel, North Dakota; and Lothar and Dennis of Loyal. Mrs. Albert (Lily) Luchterhand died 11 years ago.

His brother, Gottlieb Oestreich, who came to America with him still resides in Plymouth. He is survived also by 25 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Trinity Lutheran Church Tuesday at 2 P. M. with the Rev. Langholz officiating. Burial was in the Loyal cemetery.

His six sons were his pall bearers.

The flowers were in charge of Elaine Bertz, Ruth Weyhmiller, Irma Loiselle, Lyla Oestreich, Vera Oestreich, Mildred Oestreich, and Mildred Jensen. The first six named are granddaughters of Mr. Oestreich.

Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Louie Hahm, daughter and her husband from Granton; Mrs. Lena Bubhilz and sister Alma, Fred Oestreich, Mrs. Herman Oestreich, Mrs. Henry Oestreich, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Oestreich, John Rambs, Mrs. Paul Stargart, Mrs. James Kneg, and Mrs. Virgil Loiselle from Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Fredrick and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vetter from Stratford.
