Hollman, Rudolph (22 Apr. 1863 - 6 July 1931)

Rudolph Hollman, one of the early settlers of Colby and one of our prominent farmers, died at the Marshfield hospital July 6th after an illness of one week, bladder trouble being the cause of his departure to the distant shore. Funeral services will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby, Rev. H. Lachnit officiating, Friday morning at 9:30 o’clock and internment will take place in the Colby Catholic cemetery.

The deceased was born in Schwarzenthal, Austria, April 22, 1863, thus reaching the age of sixty-eight years, two months and fourteen days. He was married to Magdalene Schaller on September 26, 1893, at Colby, Wis., which union was blessed with three children who survive. They lived for a year at Phillips, Wis., after they were married, and, after the Phillips fire, they came to Colby and began to clear the land, which is now the Hollman farm, and which was all rough at that time. He lived on the same farm until his death - about thirty-seven years.

The surviving children are Mrs. Albert Hein, Stratford, Wisconsin; Mary Hollman, Colby; Dorothy Hollman, Milwaukee. He is also survived by one brother and two sisters - Alvin Hollman, Colby; Mrs. Bernard Pfoft, Stetsonville, Wisconsin; Mrs. John Hansel, Stetsonville, Wis.

Mr. Hollman had always been a good Christian, a kind husband and father and a congenial neighbor. He never forgot the hospitable ways of the pioneer and how much this community owes him and such as he, who cleared the land and built prosperous farms, it is impossible to estimate, though it would be a grateful task to trace his influence through some of the more direct channels, to hold him up in these degenerate days, in his various characters of husband and father, of neighbor and friend.
