Greeler, Myrtle D. (13 Jan. 1906 - 17 Nov. 1992)

Myrtle D. Greeler, 86, of 711 S. Apple Ave., died at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Hospital where she had been admitted Nov. 13.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. John W. Schenck will officiate. Music will be provided by William Allen, soloist, and Juliann Baxter, organist. Burial will be in Hillside Lutheran Cemetery.

Relatives will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Hansen Funeral Home and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time.

She was born Jan. 13, 1906, in Spencer, to August and Helen (Cammers) Schwantes. She attended Spencer Elementary School and was a graduate of Spencer High School. After high school, she attended the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point, where she earned a degree in elementary education, and later earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1962.

She married George W. Greeler June 8, 1928, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Spencer. He preceded her in death on May 10, 1974. She taught at rural Clark and Marathon county schools and for the Spencer School District from 1957 - 1972. Following her retirement, she taught as a substitute teacher in Marshfield public and parochial schools for several years.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Marshfield Historical Society, Marshfield Senior Citizens Club and the Wisconsin Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by two sons, DuWayne of Lithopolis, Ohio, and Allen B. of Waukesha; one daughter, Eilene J. Kleba of Milwaukee; one sister, Laura Manthe of Marshfield; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband; twin sons which died shortly after birth in 1936; and two brothers, Alvin Schwantes and Emil Schwantes.

Memorials may be designated to the family who will establish a memorial at a later date.
