Lukasiewicz, Mathew (24 FEB 1863 - 14 OCT 1936)

Mathew Lukasiewicz, retired farmer residing in the town of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), died at his home there on Oct. 14th, 1936 of a stroke of paralysis. He had reached the age of 73 years, 7 months and 20 days.

Mr. Lukasiewicz was born in Lithuania, Europe, on Feb. 24, 1863. At the age of seventeen years he emigrated to America and located at Anthrem, Pa., where he resided for some time. He was united in marriage to Mary Bentkowska on Feb. 6, 1887. This union was blessed with a family of twelve children, ten of whom survive. Walter died in infancy and John passed away five years ago. Mr. Lukasiewicz came here with his family from Erie, Colorado, forty-one years ago and has spent all that time on a farm near Thorp. Besides his widow he leaves to mourn, two brothers, Anton of Plymouth, Pa., and John of Pittsburg, Pa., six sons, Frank of Abbotsford, Michael of Thorp, William, Anton, Joseph and Peter of Chicago; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Boczkowski, Mrs. Magelon Wysocki, Mrs. Rose Bonczkowski and Mrs. Eva Posen, all of Chicago, and twenty-three living grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at St. Hedwig’s Church on Monday morning, Rev. F.A. Kulig officiating. The body was laid to rest in the parish cemetery near the church, the six sons of the deceased acting as pallbearers. The grandchildren, Ralph Wysocki, Harry Bonczkowski, Norman Lukasiewicz, France and Anna Bonczkowski, carried flowers.

This, another old settler, who played a part in the upbuilding of this country, has passed on to his reward.
