We suppose the reason of Republican and Press misquotes so much of late is because its editor looks at everything through the bottom of a tumbler.

The dance at Leason’s Hall, North side, last Thursday evening is said by those who attended to have been "well attended and a success in every particular." We are informed that twenty-two tickets were sold, and as many were in attendance as could comfortably till the hall, which is not large.

We see Meinhold & Curran have just received several large cases of Christmas Goods.

We had some exceedingly cold weather last week. Thursday morning the thermometer stood at 23 below and Friday it reached 28 below. Some claim it was as low as 32 degrees below. Sunday it was very pleasant, and the weather had moderated so that the thermometer stood at 32 to 40 above during the day. We now have excellent sleighing. Hauling has just commenced in the woods.

Mr. Marx has eighty acres of choice land, and by exercising the thrift and industry which we have observed in him since he came to Clark County, he will in a few years have a very valuable farm. We wish him and his bride much success.

Buy of Meinhold & Curran where they sell for cash.

A Merrill correspondent to the La Crosse Chronicle says "Very extensive preparations have been made for putting in a large amount of logs this winter. Should the weather prove favorable for logging much the largest cut will be made ever made on the Wisconsin. As high as 200,000,000 feet have been estimated as the probable cut."

Reitz & Haugen sell heavy "All Wool Suits" for men at $13, which has never been done in this county before.

About a week ago there was quite an interesting episode at Merrill over a burglar, who entered the house of Mr. V. R. Willard. He was first discovered by Lee Willard, a both thirteen years old, who spoke to him as he entered a chamber, when he ran part way down the stairs and stopped. The boy, frightened and thinking he might be coming back up stairs, fired a pistol at the man, who fell, wounded in the back, though not seriously. Mr. Willard is the law partner of W. H. Canon, who has many friends in this community.
